Teen web developer and Apple fan from Melbourne, Australia

iBook G4

I recently purchased a second-hand Apple iBook G4 12” (Mid 2005) off eBay for my Mum’s friend. I was given the task of setting it all up to be fully ready for her to switch over (she has been a PC user all her life).

Well, I’m actually quite surprised. Despite the meagre 1.33GHz G4 processor, 768MB RAM and 40GB Hard Disk, it’s actually not a bad computer! It has Leopard installed, so it supports all the latest applications. It’s relatively speedy, you can browse the web in Safari flawlessly (though it can’t do YouTube HD). Skype and Mail work well, and the iWork suite is perfectly useable.

I was also surprised at the battery life, which is approximately 3.5 hours with light web surfing, definitely more than I was expecting.

All in all, if you’re looking for an Apple laptop and need one on the cheap, have a look at eBay for an iBook G4 (make sure it’s 1.33GHz though). It was a steal at $250 + Postage.

Well, I guess that’s all until we meet again.
